Description

Green Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century and around 1825. The late 17th century section is timber-framed, rendered, and has a reed thatched roof with a rebuilt white brick chimney. It features two bays, possibly part of a three-bay cottage, and is one storey high with an attic. The High Street elevation has two dormers and four casement windows. There was originally an entry on the garden side, which is now blocked, leading to a lobby entry.

In about 1825, the main part of the house was added for the bailiff of Haslingfield Manor. This section is constructed of grey brick and has a tiled roof with end stacks, standing two storeys tall. The symmetrical facade includes two sixteen-pane flush frame hung sash windows on the first floor, with the center window being a later mid-20th century addition. There are two steps leading up to the central doorway, which features a reeded doorcase and a flat hood supported by shaped brackets. The ground floor also has two sixteen-pane hung sash windows.

Inside, the timber framing, mostly made of elm, is exposed. The hearths have been rebuilt, and one room from the 1825 addition has a coade stone floor, while another features a reeded fireplace surround. In the garden, there is a detached kitchen made of grey brick and clay bat, with a pantiled roof and an end stack. Additionally, there is an outbuilding, formerly partly used as a wash-house, constructed of large soft red brick and also pantiled, featuring two windows and two doorways.
