Description

The Manor is a house located on The Green in Duxford, dating from the late 15th century and early 16th century, with rebuilding in the late 16th century and alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber frame with plaster infill and is covered in 19th century painted brick. The roofs are plain tiled, with a late 16th century stack at the rear and a 19th century ridge stack on the left side. The building has two storeys, consisting of a hall range and two cross wings, along with a lower range that may have been an original outbuilding to the north-west. The eastern cross wing dates from the late 15th century, while the western one is possibly from the early 16th century. The hall and cross passage were rebuilt in the late 16th century. There is a 20th century door in a lean-to on the right and a glazed door on the left. The first floor has one three-light casement window, while both floors feature three hung sash windows each.

Inside, the exposed timber frame and floor-frame, which includes a roll-moulded axial beam in the hall, illustrate the various building phases and the original layout. The eastern cross wing has a four-centred arched door head and window shutter rebates. The window mullions have been resited and there is a large open hearth with a chamfered mantel beam, alongside chamfered brick arches leading to two inglenooks and two niches. A brick-arched fireplace is located on the first floor.
