Description

Robinettes is a farmhouse that dates back to the early 16th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 16th and 17th centuries. It underwent renovations in the 18th century and further changes in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of timber framing and plaster, with painted brick and plain tiled roofs. It features a large red brick chimney stack on the right side and a ridge stack to the left of the center, along with a rear ridge stack. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a cellar, designed in an L shape with a stair turret.

The main range includes an additional timber-framed bay to the north, which was added to a former unheated, jettied range. This section has substantial timber framing with two surviving bays and has been converted into a kitchen with an inserted chimney stack. The entrance is located to the left of the center and includes a panelled door. To the left of the entrance, there is one casement window, while to the right, there are two rectangular bay windows. On the first floor, there are three casement windows with decorative applied features on the upper lights.

Inside, the exposed timber framing reveals the different building periods. The interior features moulded, stop-chamfered ceiling beams and a windbraced side purlin roof in the original section. There are red brick fireplaces with chamfered arched inglenooks and niches in the main west room, as well as chamfered arches in the south rooms. A wall painting can be found in the east room, and there is reused medieval moulded clunch visible in the passage behind the hearth. Additionally, there are reused roll-moulded timbers from St John's College, Cambridge, which were removed around 1970.
