Description
No. 226 and 228 High Street is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, with an adjoining outbuilding from the early to mid-19th century. The cottage is timber framed and has roughcast rendering, with original soft red brick gable end walls that are either rendered or painted. It features a steeply pitched roof now covered with cement tiles, which is half-hipped on the right side. The original ridge stack is made of red brick, although the upper courses have been rebuilt in gault brick. The building has one storey and an attic, with two dormers from the 19th to 20th centuries and three horizontal sliding sash windows with small panes from the 19th century. There are two doorways, each with early 19th-century six-panelled doors. At the rear, there is an early to mid-19th-century outbuilding made of gault brick, topped with a slate roof.
