Description
The property at 35 Foxton High Street, known as Cottesmore, is a house that originally comprised a pair of cottages. It was built in 1792 by John Bendysh, though there may be earlier origins. The building is timber framed with plaster rendering, and has a tiled roof with red brick ridge stacks that may be of earlier date. It is two storeys high. The windows are modern, with flush frame lattice leaded lights. On the ground floor, a narrow single light is positioned opposite the stack, possibly indicating the original site of a doorway leading to a 17th-century lobby entry cottage. A doorway at the west end is located within a modern gable porch. Rowland Parker's "The Common Stream" and the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments record card from 1950 include references to the property. Mid-to-late 20th-century alterations have been made.
