Description

This is a cottage, built around 1560 for Robert Alleyn, and expanded in the 17th century. It is constructed with a timber frame, now covered with plaster rendering, and has a long-straw thatched roof. A substantial ridge stack features four square shafts set on a square base. Initially, the house was a single range facing the road. The east front has two small casement windows on the first floor, and two windows at ground floor level, with a doorway at the north end. A 17th-century addition was made to the north end of the west side, also timber framed, plaster rendered, and with a thatched roof. Inside, the first floor contains chamfered ceiling beams and a fireplace with ovolo moulded details, constructed from clunch.
