Description
Michael House is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one dwelling. Originally dating from around 1575, the building was remodeled and rebuilt in the early 18th century for Trinity College. It features a timber frame, plaster render, and a long straw thatch roof. The structure has an original axial ridge stack with two flues, plus a third flue that was added later. The building has a single range and a two-bay plan, oriented with its end facing the road. It is one storey high with an attic. There is one horizontal sliding sash window on the gable end and two on the front wall. One doorway leads to the cottage near the road, while the other doorway has been blocked and partially glazed. At the rear, there is a thatched and timber-framed outshut. Inside, there are abutting inglenook hearths made of red and gault brick, along with a small later fireplace in the attic chamber. The framing consists of slender scantling and lacks the bracing typically found in late 16th-century buildings in the village, such as those at numbers 5, 61, and 75 High Street.
