Description

The Old Green is a late 17th-century cottage, originally built as a pair of dwellings. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a half-hipped thatched roof. A central ridge stack features grouped diagonal shafts. The original plan consisted of a pair of houses, each with entrances leading into a main room and an inner service room, with stairs to the upper floors located beside the stack. The windows are largely replacements from the 20th century, including two casement dormer windows in the attic and five ground-floor casement windows. Original entrances have been blocked, and a flat-roofed, closed porch now provides access to the right-hand side. The cottage stands on The Green, which was once the site of the old medieval market and was enclosed in 1840.
