Description
62 and 64 Church Street are a pair of houses and a shop dating from the 18th century. They are timber framed, roughcast rendered, and have a plain tile roof. The buildings share a ridge stack, which was rebuilt above the ridge in the 18th century. They are two storeys tall and feature three flush frame six-pane hung sash windows on the first floor. The ground floor has three windows, including one similar six-pane window and another with sixteen panes. There is a later 18th to early 19th century doorcase with reeded pilasters, a flat hood on brackets, and a six-panelled door. Number 62 currently has a shop in a ground floor room. Each house has a contemporary wing at the rear, with the doorway to number 64 located in the wing. Number 64 was known as the Royal Oak public house in the late 17th century.
