Description

Old Maltings Cottage is a house dating from around 1700, with alterations made in the late 19th century and late 20th century. It features timber framing that is rendered and roughcast, along with an incomplete red brick plinth. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has two brick ridge stacks. The cottage is two storeys high and has a three-window range, with most windows being 19th-century casements.

The west front includes one double and two single sliding garage doors from the late 20th century. Above these doors are three 3-light casements. The blank left gable has a single-storey lean-to addition that was reduced and reroofed in the late 20th century. The rear elevation has two windows, one from the 20th century, and three smaller windows above.

Inside, the ground floor features a chamfered spine beam in the south and central rooms, with a scarf joint on the partition wall. The south room has a collapsed floor that exposes a brick-lined cellar from the 18th century. In the central room, there is a major fireplace flanked by cupboards, with a rendered lintel. There is also a boarded opening leading to the stairway and a cupboard. The north room has a chamfered spine beam supporting a partly collapsed floor and a blocked 20th-century fireplace.

On the first floor, there is an exposed post on the west front, along with exposed wall plates and tie beams. There is one beaded board door from the 19th century. The principal rafter roof is made of light scantling, featuring a ridge piece and diagonal brace, with ceilings at collar level.
