Description

This property, comprising numbers 74, 76, and 78 Church Street, is a house originally built in the late 16th to early 17th century, with significant alterations and a new facade added in the early 18th century. The building is now divided into two dwellings. The original construction was timber-framed and roughcast rendered, but the front was later refaced with red brick, now painted. It has a tiled roof with a hipped eastern end. A prominent brick ridge stack of three diagonally-linked shafts is located centrally, with rebuilt upper courses. A moulded brick cornice runs along the eaves.

The original layout consisted of a hall and an east crosswing, with alterations made in the late 17th or early 18th century when the roof was rebuilt into a straight range. The building is two storeys high, with a moulded brick plat band separating the floors. It has five window openings dating to the late 17th or early 18th century; these are arched and contain modern casement windows. Four similar windows flank the doorway. A gabled stair turret is located at the rear, along with a later lean-to addition.

The interior retains stop-chamfered beams and joists, as well as a wind-braced side purlin roof in the crosswing.
