Description
The stable block located 20 yards west of Hatley Park is a structure primarily dating from around 1879, although it has origins in the early 18th century. It is built of red brick and features plain tiled roofs, topped with a recently restored glazed timber cupola that leads to a tapering, slender roof made of patterned slates and lead. On the west side, there is a timber clock turret with a bell-shaped roof and symmetrical turned columns at the corners. The clock, which displays Roman numerals, is dated 1879 and made by Dent. The stable block forms an irregular rectangular courtyard, with cottages for domestic staff flanking the entrance on the north side. These cottages are two storeys high and have shaped brackets supporting the eaves of their half-hipped roofs. The windows are designed with round-headed arches that include a pivot light within the arch. Notably, the south wall features early 18th-century brickwork and a window arch from the same period. In 1879, the property was owned by John Carbery Evans.
