Description

This is a late 17th or early 18th century cottage, extended in the late 18th century, located on Pettits Lane in Dry Drayton. The original, three-bay cottage is timber-framed and has rendered brick at its base. It is faced with plaster and weatherboarding on one end, and topped with a longstraw thatched roof. Two ridge stacks with single flues are visible, one having been rebuilt in part. The building was extended to the left in the late 18th century and subsequently converted into two separate cottages. The cottage is one storey high with an attic, featuring two gable dormers. There are two doorways, one currently blocked, and four casement windows are present. The doorway on the right-hand side has a boarded door. Inside, a large inglenook hearth is present, along with a 19th-century mantel and a cupboard staircase. An original rent slip from 1757, indicating a payment of 17/6 per half year, was found beneath the floorboards.
