Description
Walnut Tree Cottage is a cottage that may date from the late 17th century or 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and is weather boarded, painted, and tarred, topped with a thatched roof. The cottage has a ridge stack located to the right of the center. It is one storey high with an attic. The entrance door is positioned to the right of the center, and there are four twelve-paned hung sash windows on the ground floor, along with three casement dormer windows. A reduced painted brick stack is found at the left-hand corner. In the late 19th century, the cottage was extended to the north-east, and the main entrance was relocated to a lobby entry position. Inside, there is a hearth with a mantel beam and a recess that may have been used for an oven. A 19th-century photograph exists showing the cottage before these alterations, and it is privately owned.
