Description

Rectory Cottage is a pair of cottages, now combined into one dwelling, dating from the late 17th or 18th century, with a 19th-century addition. The building is timber-framed and has been plastered, featuring 20th-century panelled pargetting. It has a thatched roof, with a ridge stack located to the left of the centre and a painted brick gable end stack on the right. The cottage is one storey and attic, with a three-unit plan, and includes a late 19th-century gable-ended extension to the right. The front has four casement windows on the ground floor and three casement dormer windows in the attic. A 20th-century closed gabled porch with a plain tiled roof is present. The interior features exposed floor frames and the original timber-frame, with a partition removed between the north-east ground floor rooms. Two hearths are present; one has two niches with shaped heads. A baking oven remains, including a tell-tale brick for monitoring oven temperature.
