Description
Buckley House and Thrae is a 16th and 17th century rendered, timber-framed house located on the south side of Thicket Road in Houghton. The building features a continuous jetty and a two-bayed cross-wing on the right side. There is a stair turret at the angle of the main building and a rear kitchen range. The house is two storeys high with attics and has plain tile roofs. A ridge stack is adorned with a moulded, dentil brick cornice and three hexagonal shafts.
The property has ranges of three hung sash windows with glazing bars and moulded architraves on both floors. The main entry is aligned with the stack and features a panelled door, while there is a side entry in a modern two-storey wing to the left of the cross-wing. The earlier section of the building, to the right of the stack, has three chamfered jetty brackets. The joists in this section contrast with the slender joists in the left-hand side and the cross-wing, which includes a dragon post.
Inside, the main chamfered ceiling beams are supported by carved scroll brackets, and the dragon beam is stop-chamfered. There is an ovolo-moulded mullion for a two-light window in the cross-wing, and two inglenook hearths are present.
