Description
The Manor is a two-storey building located on Thicket Road in Houghton, dated 1905 as noted on the rainwater head. It was designed by Reverend Oliphant in the Vernacular Revival style. The building is constructed of red brick and has plain tile roofs, featuring a moulded brick cornice, stone-capped parapets, and gable facades adorned with finials. A central, flat-roofed, projecting two-storey porch has rusticated quoins and a flat canopy over panelled double doors with intricate ironwork. To the right, there is a side stack with polygonal, moulded brick shafts. The windows are casement style at both floor levels, with stone, ovolo-moulded mullions and transoms set in flat gauged brick arches with key blocks. The interior is rich in detail, featuring a galleried hall, large inglenook hearths, and varying floor levels. Locally forged iron fittings are present on the windows and doors. Reverend F J Kingsley-Backenbury Oliphant served as the Rector of Houghton from 1901 to 1930, as recorded in the Huntingdon Record Office.
