Description

The Monument to Potto Brown is located in the south-east corner of The Green in Houghton. It features a bronze bust of Potto Brown, which is placed on a granite plinth. The plinth has three inscribed panels that commemorate his life. The inscription reads: "Potto Brown was born in this village 16th July 1797 where he spent his life devoting himself to the best interests of those around him and died 12th April 1871." Potto Brown was a miller who built Houghton Chapel in 1840.
