Description
The New Sun Public House is a shop and inn located on Kimbolton High Street. It features an altered 18th-century street facade that covers an original 16th-century timber-framed jettied building, which has a chimney stack dated 15 on the mantel beam. The structure is two storeys high with attics, constructed of brick and timber-frame rendered on the street facade. The original 18th-century roof has been modified to a mansard style, covered with slate and plain tiles, and includes a ridge stack.
The building has a deep, moulded eaves cornice and dentil decoration on the triangular pediment, which features a small ogee-headed hung sash window with glazing bars. There are two horizontal sliding sash dormer windows flanking this feature. On the first floor, there are three hung sash windows with glazing bars set in flush wooden frames. The half-glazed door is slightly recessed and flanked by two projecting windows with glazing bars, all topped with a common entablature. A central plank door leads to a through passage, while a panelled door with two large flanking windows with glazing bars is located on the north-west side.
Inside, the pub features an inglenook hearth with a dated mantel beam and exposed ceiling beams. There are two-light mullioned and transomed windows, along with an 18th-century cupboard and door architraves that have been reset in the wall.
