Description
Rosenthal is a mid-19th century house located on the south side of High Street in Hemingford Grey. It is three storeys tall with a basement, constructed from gault brick and topped with a shallow pitch slate roof. The eaves are boarded, and there are end stacks. A band runs between the floors, and the windows feature cambered gauged arches, with ranges of three hung sash windows that have glazing bars on the first and second floors. Flanking the central stone portico, which is in the Doric order and accessed by five steps, are two French casement windows with coloured margin lights and louvred shutters. The doorcase includes panelled reveals and a rectangular fan-light. Inside, there is a notable open-string staircase with four flights and original doors. This house was the home of Rosenthal, a local builder.
