Description
The Glebe is a 16th-century cottage located on the south side of High Street in Hemingford Grey. It features an original 'open-hall' plan and a jettied cross-wing that has two bays, along with a 17th-century extension to the east. The building is thatched, with a timber frame that is rendered. There is a brick stack with two brick pilasters inserted into the original chimney bay, and a side stack in the cross-wing that conceals an original three-light diamond mullion window on the first floor. The cottage has a ridge stack on the left-hand side and a gabled dormer. It includes four windows that are horizontal sliding sashes with glazing bars and shutters, along with a modern panelled door.
Inside, there are two inglenook hearths and pargetting within a frame of bolection moulding in the first-floor room. The interior also features panelled 17th-century doors with friezes and carved panels, original hinges, and a good plank door with a strap hinge. Additionally, there are reset 17th-century balusters at the head of the stairs.
