Description
28 Huntingdon Road is a building dating from around 1600, featuring a two-bay layout with a lobby entry plan, and a mid-18th century service wing at the rear. The structure is timber framed, with the front wall rebuilt in brick during the 19th century. At the same time, the left gable end was covered in gault brick. The building has a steeply pitched tiled roof with an original red brick ridge stack that includes a string course and moulded capping. It stands two storeys tall and has two recessed hung sash windows with glazing bars, along with one blocked window on the first floor. There are segmental arches above two similar windows on either side of the doorway. The rear service wing is one storey with attics, constructed of painted brick and topped with a tiled roof. Inside, the inglenook hearth in the front range likely replaced a larger hearth that was originally on the site, while the hearth in the service wing is original. The framing and bracing inside show similarities to those found at Pepys House, also located on Huntingdon Road. Notably, there is an edge halved and bridle butted scarf joint in the near wall plate.
