Description

No. 13 Broadway, formerly known as the Mermaid Tavern, is a late 17th century timber-framed house that has been refaced on the street front. The building features a 18th century front that is two storeys high with attics, constructed from gault brick and topped with a modern tile roof. There is a band between the storeys, and the façade includes four windows with flush frames, exposed boxing, and glazing bars. On the right side of the ground floor, there is a carriageway with a segmental arch. At the rear, there is a 17th century window with a solid oak frame, transom, and mullion; the upper lights have lead glazing, while the lower light retains its original iron casement. No. 1, and Nos. 7 to 13 (odd), along with No. 17 and Nos. 21 to 39 (odd), form a group with the shop adjoining No. 1.
