Description

No. 31 Market Place is a shop built in the mid-19th century. It features yellow gault brick with red and black brick bands and a moulded brick cornice, topped with a slate roof. The building occupies a corner position with Union Street and has four storeys with two bays. A large central stack is topped with a deep brick cornice that is repeated at the roof cornice. There are two four-paned hung sash recessed windows with patterned stone arches. Additionally, there are pairs of large, canted, hung sash bay windows on both the first and second floors, while the ground floor has a modern shop front. This building is included for its group value.
