Description

This is a late 18th-century house located on the north side of Wisbech Hill Street. Constructed of local amber brick, the house is three storeys high with a basement, and follows a double-pile plan, with chimneys located on the side. The exterior features a stone coping to the parapet, horizontal bands at the first and second floors, and a plinth band. The windows are sash windows without glazing bars. The second floor has four windows, while the first floor has four larger windows, all set within cambered, gauged brick arches. The ground floor has three large, round-headed windows also with gauged brick arches and stone cills. A stone architraved doorcase to the left leads to a panelled door recessed within a round-headed arch, above which is a patterned fanlight, and approached by stone steps. The interior retains original details including good pedimented doorcases, a fireplace, and a staircase with a top light. The building is described in Pevsner’s Buildings of England (page 498) and the Victoria County History of Cambridgeshire (page 243).
