Description
Dicken's Tavern is a mid-18th century house located on Wisbech Hill Street. It is constructed of local brown brick and features a slate roof with end stacks. The building has a parapet with stone coping, a painted stone band at the second floor, and rusticated quoins. All windows are adorned with gauged red brick arches and stone cills, and there is a brick plinth at the base. The structure stands three storeys tall and includes five nine-paned recessed hung sash windows, five twelve-paned hung sash windows on the first floor, and four twelve-paned hung sash windows on the ground floor. The central entrance is framed by a painted, moulded stone doorcase that includes a pulvinated frieze and cornice, leading to a six-panelled door. Inside, the tavern features a well-preserved early 19th century staircase and a ceiling in the right-hand room that showcases plastered cross-beams enriched with flower bosses, also from the 19th century.
