Description
No. 9 Claygate is a cottage that dates from the late 17th century, with a 19th-century addition. It is constructed with a timber frame, wattle and daub infill, and rendered surfaces, along with brick additions. The roof is covered with long straw thatch, featuring a half-hipped design and an original axial ridge stack, as well as a later small end stack. The building has a lobby entry plan and consists of one storey with an attic, which includes one dormer. There are four windows, three of which are now blocked, and one that features trellis work. The cottage has two doorways, one leading to the lobby entry. The framing is exposed in the gable end, showcasing straight downward bracing. Inside, the parlour includes an ovolo moulding on the main beam and an inglenook hearth in the left-hand room.
