Description
Leverington Cemetery Chapel is a cemetery mortuary chapel built around 1835 by William Adams of Wisbech. It features a Doric design and is constructed of yellow gault brick with stone and Roman cement dressings, topped with a shallow pitched slate roof. The chapel is a single storey and includes pilasters at the corners and along the bays, with bases on a deep moulded plinth. It has pediments with stone copings. The frieze above the double entrance facing east is painted with the words "General Cemetery." The west facade has a large central window, which is now boarded, featuring gauged brick arches, imposts, and keyblocks, along with two small flanking windows. The cemetery, covering nearly 2.5 acres, is currently in a derelict condition. The tombstones have been carefully plotted and recorded by Mr. E. Golding. While none of the tombstones are of outstanding quality, they hold intrinsic value as a record of 19th-century history for Wisbech.
