Description

A row of six headstones from the mid-18th century is located south of the south porch of the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul.

The first headstone is made of limestone and features a bas-relief design with an angel holding a trumpet of victory above a deceased person rising from a coffin. Below, there is a rectangular raised and fielded panel flanked by two angels, one holding a Book of Knowledge and the other a Crown of Glory.

The second headstone, dated 1730, is also made of limestone and showcases two engaged Ionic columns supporting an entablature and a segmental pediment. The tympanum displays a winged cherub's head representing a risen soul, along with a circular panel that contains an inscription, which is now indecipherable.

The third headstone resembles the second but features Rococo foliate ornamentation.

The fourth headstone, likely made from Ketton limestone around 1730, is larger and has a shaped head adorned with a glory of a winged angel, a crown of honour, and sunrays. Below is a shouldered panel with rosettes at the corners, flanked by scrolls and drops of fruit and flowers.

The fifth headstone, from the mid-18th century and probably also made of Ketton limestone, is similar to the fourth, featuring a winged angel above a circular panel with a leaf border and flowers at the corners.

The sixth headstone, also from the mid-18th century and made of limestone, depicts two naive winged angels with trumpets of victory supporting a crown of honour, with two female figures holding emblems as caryatids flanking the inscription.
