Description

This is an early 19th century brick house, dating to around 1820, located on the Quayside. Originally featuring a parapet and cornice, the building is now rendered with a Tyrolean finish. A brick wing extends to the rear on the south side. The east front has two storeys and attics, with a five-window range. The south wing’s ground storey also has a five-window range. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, set in plain reveals. The first storey of the south wing incorporates 20th-century easement windows. A raised band runs between the storeys. The roof is tiled, with two flat-headed dormers facing east and two louvred dormers on the south wing. The building forms a group with numbers 54 to 64 (even), Ely Maltings, number 68 (Malting Cottage), numbers 51 to 53 (consecutive), the malthouse adjoining number 53, Quay House, number 55, and the house adjoining number 55 Waterside.
