Description

Zoar Chapel is a Baptist chapel built in 1821, with later extensions added in the 19th century. The building features a plastered timber-frame structure with a southeast front made of Flemish bond gault brick. It has a pantile roof with gabled ends and a slate roof on the lean-to extension. The chapel has a single cell rectangular plan measuring 20 feet by 30 feet, with the entrance located at the southeast end and a rostrum at the northwest end.

The exterior is one storey high, showcasing a gabled southeast brick front that includes a central doorway with a two-centred arch and a fanlight featuring V glazing bars, along with a panelled door. There are large windows on either side of the doorway, both with cambered brick arches, panelled shutters, and a stone tablet above the gable that reads "Zoar Chapel Erected 1821." To the left is a lean-to extension that has a smaller shuttered window and a glazed panelled door on the far left. The northeast side of the chapel is blind, while the northwest end has two casement windows with glazing bars in the gable and a four-pane sash window in the lean-to on the right.

Inside, the chapel contains box pews and benches with shaped ends. The rostrum features splat balusters, turned newels, a moulded and wreathed rail, and a shaped back. There is a panelled dado, and the roof is ceiled. The interior also includes 19th-century wall memorials and a 19th-century chimneypiece in the lean-to extension.
