Description
The windmill located to the rear of the Mill House in Swaffham Prior is a tower windmill built in 1864 and restored in the late 20th century. It features a clunch exterior faced with brick and tar, and is structured in three stages. The ground floor has a plank stable door, while the upper levels have glazing bar casements that decrease in size as they ascend. The windmill is topped with a revolving ogee cap, four sails, and a fantail.
Inside, the windmill retains its original floors and staircases, as well as all of its original internal milling machinery, including two pairs of grinding stones. This makes it a very complete example of a tower mill from its period.
