Description
Caxton Cottage is a range of cottages that have been converted into a single house, likely built in the late 18th century and extended and altered in the 20th century. The building features plastered cob walls and a pantile roof with gabled ends, along with brick axial stacks. The layout consists of a pair of single-storey cottages arranged at right angles to each other, with the rear left cottage now serving as a rear wing that was extended by one room in the 20th century. This rear wing was reportedly once part of a larger range of cottages. The front range includes a larger room on the right side and an axial stack with back-to-back fireplaces. There is also a late 20th-century extension to the rear right.
The exterior is one storey high and has an asymmetrical two-window northwest front, featuring two and three-light horizontally-sliding sash windows with leaded panes. A similar two-light window is located on the southwest end. The rear wing has two-light casements and horizontally-sliding sash windows, all with leaded panes. Inside, the rooms are ceiled and open to collar level, with exposed wall-plates. The fireplaces have 20th-century chimneypieces.
