Description
No. 94 Commercial End is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century, now largely hidden by an early 19th-century front range built by Thomas Bowyer. The original house is constructed of clunch with red brick dressings and features a steeply pitched tiled roof with end parapets and end stacks. It has two storeys and attics, with only part of the original front elevation visible. There is one hipped dormer above an original sash window on the first floor, while the doorway is from the 19th century.
The 19th-century front range has a gault brick front wall, with end walls primarily of clunch and upper courses also of gault brick. It also has a steeply pitched tiled roof with end stacks, two storeys, and attics, featuring three dormers. The symmetrical elevation includes three mid to late 19th-century hung sashes, each with four panes. The window sills were all lowered in the mid to late 19th century. On the ground floor, two similar windows flank a central doorway that has four panels and two glazed upper panels. Inside the front range, the original open-string staircase with a moulded rail is preserved. The house is associated with maltings, located adjacent to the east.
