Description
64 and 66 Commercial End are a pair of cottages built in the early 19th century, likely for Thomas Bowyer, who died in 1824. The cottages are constructed from rendered timber-frame and feature a pantile roof with a gault brick ridge stack. They are designed as single units with a pantry plan, comprising a single storey and an attic. The front has a two-window range that includes both single-light and two-light 20th-century casements, along with two two-light horizontal sliding sash dormers above. The doors are part-glazed. The interiors have not been inspected. This pair of cottages has seen little alteration and is likely among those built by Bowyer for his workforce, as he was a significant local merchant involved in trading activities on the Swaffham Lode from a nearby wharf.
