Description
30 and 32 Commercial End are a pair of cottages built in the early 19th century, likely for Thomas Bowyer, who died in 1824. The cottages are constructed with a pebbledashed timber frame and feature a pantile roof with a gault brick ridge stack. They are designed as single-unit homes with a pantry plan and rise to two stories. The front has a two-window range of 2-light horizontal sliding sashes. There are part-glazed doors with small gabled hoods; the door on the right has ornamental bargeboards and a finial. Additionally, there are tiny single-light windows at both the far left and right on the ground floor. The interiors have not been inspected. This pair of cottages has seen little alteration and is likely among those built by Bowyer for his workforce. He was a significant local merchant involved in trading activities along the Swaffham Lode from a nearby wharf.
