Description

Poets Cottage is an early 18th-century cottage located on the north side of Carter Street in Fordham. It is constructed of clunch, which is painted and plastered, and features red pantile roofs along with a tall, local brick chimney stack. The cottage has a two-unit plan with a lower range at right angles, consisting of one storey and an attic. The windows are designed with Gothic two-centred arches and include glazing bars, while there is a boarded door located on the left side. This cottage was the home of James R. Withers, a local poet who lived from 1812 to 1892.
