Description

This is a late 16th-century farmhouse, originally timber-framed and now plastered with decorative timberwork on the front facade. It has a red pantile roof and a tall brick ridge stack. The building has two storeys, with a later timber-framed outshut at the rear. It follows a three-unit plan and has a lobby entry. There are three first-floor casement windows with four panes, and two small 19th-century bay windows flank a shop door with half-glazed panels on the ground floor. To the front are two 16-pane hung sash windows, and a six-panel house door. A single-storeyed brick kitchen range and bakery was added to the rear in the early 19th century, also with red pantile roofs. The bakehouse retains its original 19th-century baking oven, which is still in use. A two-storey extension, dating to the late 18th century, was constructed to the south-east of the original building; it is built of painted local brick, and features a parapet gable, end stack, plain tile roof, and a band between the floors. This extension has one 16-pane hung sash window on the first floor and a fixed glazing-bar window on the ground floor. Inside the original building, the first floor reveals exposed timber framing, and there are two sealed inglenook hearths.
