Description
This building is a warehouse and granary, dating from the early 19th century, located approximately 25 yards north of the Merchant's House in Swaffham Bulbeck. It is constructed of gault brick in English bond and features a low, hipped slate roof. The structure has two storeys and a cellar. The gable end facing the road includes a hoist opening on the first floor above a larger doorway on the ground floor. The side wall, which overlooks what was once a cobbled yard and drying ground, has four recessed windows on each floor. This warehouse was likely built by Thomas Bowyer and is notable as the only intact commercial building associated with the inland ports in the village. A part of the dock basin can be seen about 10 yards northwest of the warehouse.
