Description
This barn, located 150 yards west of Burystead Farm, dates from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of red brick with varied bonding and sits on a plinth. The side walls were raised in the 19th century, and it has a corrugated iron roof, which was originally thatched, featuring tumbled gable end parapets. The barn is aisled and has five bays, with a porch opening in the east wall and three square breather openings also in the east wall. The north end wall has been rebuilt.
Inside, the barn has Queen struts supporting the side purlin roof, along with braced tie beams and arcade plates. The aisle ties were removed when the walls were raised in the 19th century. It features a wooden threshing floor and jowled post heads that bear carpenter's marks. It is possibly built in 1742, around the same time as the south wing of the adjacent house.
