Description

This is a mid-18th century house located on Pratt Street in Soham, with extensions added in the 19th century. The house is constructed of narrow gault brick, using a mixed English bond pattern, and has a steeply pitched slate roof. The roof features gable end parapets, a saw-tooth eaves cornice, and end stacks. The facade is divided into two storeys and an attic, featuring a band above the first floor and between floors, along with three dormers. The facade has two flush-frame sash windows from the mid-19th century, with vertical glazing bars, on either side of a similar central window set within a round-headed arch. The central doorway is distinguished by a moulded architrave doorcase, a pulvinated frieze, a raised keyblock, and a flat hood. The door itself consists of six raised and fielded panels, including two small glazed panels.

The interior includes one ground floor room with raised and fielded panelling in two heights, along with late 18th or early 19th century reeded window surrounds and a dado rail. A fine, mid-18th century open-string staircase is present, spanning four flights, featuring three turned balusters per tread, turned newels, a curtail, and scroll tread ends. The attic flight of the staircase is likely from an earlier date.
