Description
Badlingham Manor is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with 19th-century additions, located within a rectangular moated site. The building features a close studded timber frame, which is plastered and exposed on the gable and rear elevations. It has a local brick chimney stack with four octagonal shafts arranged in two stages and a plain tile roof. The manor is two storeys high and has a three-unit plan comprising five timber-framed bays, including a chimney bay. There are four casement windows that have been replaced on both the first and ground floors, and a modern porch has been added to the entrance, which is in the original cross-passage position.
Inside, the manor has plain chamfered axial beams and three original stop-chamfered, four-centred arched clunch chimney pieces. A modern staircase has been installed in the cross-passage. The carpentry details include unjowled storey posts without braces in the chimney bay, with braces removed from all other trusses, edge halved and bridled scarf joints, and a side purlin roof.
