Description

Manor House is a house, formerly a manor house, dating from the late 17th century, with a rear extension added in 1934. The building has four windows, is two storeys high with attics, and is constructed of pink and buff brick. It features a double moulded string course at the first floor and parapet gables. The roof is plaintiled with external end chimneys made of pink brick, which were recapped in the 19th century with gault brick. There is also an external 17th-century chimney at the rear with a sunk panel in the shaft. The house has gabled 19th-century dormers with rendered cheeks and small-pane casements. The windows are three-light wooden windows from the 18th and 19th centuries, lacking lintels, along with metal casements that have leaded lights, some of which contain crown glass. The entrance door, dating from the early 20th century, is a six-panelled design with a flat canopy supported by brackets.

Inside, there is a contemporary timber-framed and plastered wing at the rear that contains a fine 17th-century staircase made of pine, featuring heavy panelled newels with drop-finials and urn balusters. A ground floor room retains complete late 17th-century decoration, including full moulded panelling and cornice, a fireplace surround, and two-panelled doors with broad shouldered architraves. A first-floor room is fully panelled with wainscotting of a simpler 17th-century style. Other rooms display less complete 17th and 18th-century joinery. Additionally, a rear service range to the left, originally one storey, was raised to two storeys and extended in 1934.
