Description

The Old Rectory is a house that was formerly a rectory, built in the mid-18th century, with a rear section dating from the late 16th century and alterations made in 1830. The building has a double-pile plan and features a front range with five windows, standing two storeys tall with attics. It is constructed of gault brick and has a string course at the first floor. The roofs are plaintiled, with flat lead-roofed casement dormers, and there are end and rear chimneys made of gault brick. The sash windows have segmental heads made of gauged brick and small-pane sashes.

There is a single-storey entrance porch from the 19th century, also made of gault brick, with a flat roof and parapets. The entrance door is a two-panelled design with an oblong fanlight featuring patterned glazing bars. The rear range contains a well-preserved timber-framed core from the late 16th century, with ovolo-moulded beams on the first floor and other exposed framing; it has a wind-braced clasped-purlin roof.

The rear elevation is encased in gault brick and showcases decorative elements from the 1830 alterations in the Gothick style, including intricately carved bargeboards and windows with hood-moulds and small-pane casements, where the upper lights are arched. There is also a one-storey rear entrance porch with a hood-moulded and drop-traceried doorway. In the gable, there is a diamond plaque that displays the insignia of the Incumbent and the date 1830.
