Description

Friar House, located at No 12 Bene't Street, is an early 17th-century building that stands three storeys high with attics. It features a timber-framed and plastered construction, with a gabled end facing Bene't Street that projects above the first floor level. The front facing Free School Lane also projects at both the first and second floor levels. Most of the windows date from the 18th century, with some featuring glazing bars. The front displays imitation half-timbered work. The interior has been modernized, except for one early 18th-century staircase. Friar House is part of a group that includes Nos 1, 2, and 2A Free School Lane, as well as the Church of St Bene't.
