Description
The Church of St Bene't is an early 11th-century building located on Bene't Street, with its tower, the four external angles of the nave, and the south wall of the chancel dating from this period. The church was enlarged in the 14th century, with the nave roof and clear storey added in 1452. There were alterations made by J.R. Brandon in 1853 and A.W. Blomfield in 1872. The structure is built of rubble with freestone dressings. A notable interior feature is the 11th-century tower arch. This church is recognized as the oldest in Cambridgeshire. The Church of St Bene't, along with Nos 10, 12, and 13, forms a group.
