Description

The Clerk of Works House at Horseshoe Barracks, located in Shoebury Garrison, Southend on Sea, is an officer's house built around 1861. It is constructed from yellow stock brick with rubbed brick heads, brick stacks, and features a slate hipped roof. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range.

The entrance front includes a projecting coped gable with a finial and kneelers, positioned one bay from the left. There is a first-floor brick string and cill course. The left-hand entrance bay is set back and features a segmental-arched doorway with a plate-glass overlight and a four-panel door. The ground floor has segmental-arched 2/2-pane sashes with keys, while the front gable showcases a wide shallow parapetted bay with a tripartite window supported by brick mullions. Ground-floor tripartite windows are located to the right, with corresponding windows on the first floor above the bay and on the left-hand side.

The interior has not been inspected. The Royal Artillery School, for which this house was built, opened in 1859.
