Description
Cromwell House is a 17th century house located at right angles to Maxey Road in Helpston. The building is constructed of painted stone rubble and features a thatched roof with a coped gable end. The west end faces the road and is made of brick. It has one storey and an attic, with a two-window range. There are two eyebrow dormers and a 17th century stone gabled dormer, which is dated "SA 1658" and includes a three-light ovolo moulded stone mullion window with a cornice. The ground floor has modern casements, one of which is set in a moulded stone frame with a cornice. The central entrance features a moulded stone door frame with a four-centred arch and cornice. There are brick chimney stacks at the center of the house. At the east end, there is a one bay extension from the 18th century, made of rubble and also featuring a thatched roof.
