Description
The kennels and enclosure wall adjoining the south at Milton Park were likely built in 1767 when the Fitzwilliam Hunt was established. They are depicted as already existing on Repton's plans from 1791. The buildings form an approximately U-shaped layout and are constructed of coursed stone with roofs made of Welsh slate and Collyweston stone. The west front is designed to resemble a sham medieval ruin, featuring two large flanking round towers. The left tower has an embattled parapet, while the right tower is shorter and topped with a conical roof and a weather vane. At the center, there is a chamfered pointed arch entrance, which may incorporate re-used medieval materials, flanked by cross-shaped arrow slits and a mounting block. The rear has two wings, one with a circular corner turret and the other featuring a blind gothic arch. The enclosure wall to the south is a low coursed stone structure with ramped coping, ashlar piers with pedimental caps, and wooden railings in between. The enclosure is rectangular and includes a simple shelter for the hounds on the inside of the east wall.
