Description
Pilsgate Lodges, located at the north-east gate of Burghley Park, were built around 1840 and enlarged in 1876. The structure consists of two stone lodges flanking the gateway. They feature Collyweston stone roofs with coped gable ends topped with ball finials and moulded stone eaves. The windows have moulded stone mullions, and there are ashlar chimney stacks with cornices. Originally, the lodges were one storey with a basement, characterized by corner pilasters, a cornice, and parapets. They were heightened and extended in 1876, which is marked by a date and shield in the gable. Between the lodges, there is a pair of cast iron gates, accompanied by openwork gate piers adorned with strapwork finials.
